Medical Alert Devices
A
medical alert system is a device (or devices) that helps the user stay safe in
their home or outside. The device usually comes in the form of a bracelet,
necklace, or pendant and is connected to a speaker that allows the user to contact
a trained operator with the simple press of a button. This operator can help
the user to determine if they need emergency help. August is national medical
alert system month and is a great time to consider using a medical alert device
to ensure your safety or the safety of a loved one.
The Bay Alert Medical Alarm is one of the more affordable options for medical alert systems. Their packages start at $19.95 per month, and their systems can be used at home or outside of the house. The Bay Alert Medical Alarm SOS Mobile System is small, sleek, and lightweight, making it a perfect option for those who do not want to carry around a bulky system. This system also comes with a Caregiver Tracking feature allowing caregivers to pinpoint the location of the wearer, view their location history, and receive low battery notifications. The system also allows the user to track their steps, set daily goals, and connect to a 24/7 monitoring center. This system is rather discreet, and functions like a smart watch.
Another system that is recommended for those looking for flair and versatility in a medical alert system would be Medical Guardian’s medical alert system. With everything from a discreet on-the-go system to the MyGuardian companion mobile app and desktop portal, Medical Guardian comes with all the bells and whistles. Prices start at $29.95. The system can include the standard features and add-ons, including fall detection, a base station with two-way audio, water-resistant help buttons, and systems built for at-home or on-the-go use.
LifeFone offers one of the largest at-home coverage ranges in the industry. At 1,400 feet, LifeFone’s range from its base station to its wearable help buttons is two or three times the in-home range of its competitors. The in-home systems can be advanced for only $5 per month, and its systems start at $29.95 per month. LifeFone’s systems also include a caregiver mobile app, features for those with hearing or visual impairments, and a 30-day battery life for some of their systems.
The Aloe Health Care systems are designed for adult children and caregivers who worry about their loved one living on their own. This system provides the ultimate at-home support for independent seniors and their caregivers. Family and friends in the designated Care Circle can see real-time updates on their loved ones via the Aloe Health Care app. Utilizing this app can inform those in the Care Circle to view recent movements in the home, the temperature, the air quality, and check-in notes. They can even call their loved one directly through the Smart Hub base station.
While these are not all the medical alert systems to consider, these have received great reviews. Using a medical alert system can save the life of a senior and can ensure their safety in a way that nothing else can. By detecting a fall or allowing the senior to speak to an operator, these systems can put seniors and families at ease that their loved one will be well protected
