At-Home Caregiver's Needs No Longer Overlooked

Nebraska, like other states, offers medicaid waiver for home and community based services (HCBS) programs.  These programs offer services to support people in their homes. To qualify for this program individuals must be eligible for medicaid and must require nursing facility level care. Additionally, they should want to live at home rather than a nursing facility. Just to name a few of the funded services: home-delivered meals, cleaning, home modifications, respite care, skills building, child care for children with disabilities, transportation, and adult day services. Although home and community based services are growing more popular, the AARP has called national attention to the needs of the caregivers. Family caregivers helping older people and adults with disabilities have extremely demanding jobs. Caregivers have not had their physical, emotional, and financial needs nationally addressed until now. To ensure the best care for our loved ones it is essential to understand and address the needs of the caregivers.
