NE Bill for Medicaid Expansion Moves Forward

The Nebraska Legislature's Health and Human Services Committee voted on Monday February 24th to send the "Nebraska Wellness Act" to the full legislature for debate. The committee voted 5-1 for advancement of the Bill 887. Nebraska AARP and the Center for Rural Affairs have lent their support to Bill 887.

This Medicaid expansion proposal differs from the version that did not pass last year. The "Nebraska Wellness Act" would make use of private insurance, cost-sharing, and wellness incentives.

However, Bill 887 still has hurdles to overcome. Governor Heineman and a group of senators are still opposed to this rewritten bill for Medicaid expansion.
